Religious Education

At Maldon Court Preparatory School we follow a syllabus which is based on the teaching and practices of Christianity and other principal religions in Great Britain.

Schemes of work are planned for the children of different age groups. The teaching also aims to help the children grow into responsible adults who have confidence in themselves and know right from wrong

The school values the religious background of all its pupils and encourages individuals to share their own experiences. All religions and their communities are treated with respect and sensitivity.

We promote teaching that stresses open inquiry and first hand experiences wherever possible. Classes visit a variety of religious buildings and visitors from all faiths are welcomed into the school.  Lessons incorporate a highly sensory approach, where children may look at and handle religious artefacts, hear religious music or taste food from a religious tradition. Our aim is to ensure that religion is perceived by our children as being ‘living’ and relevant to all our personal lives.

Collective Worship

There is a daily act of collective worship when the school community comes together either as a whole, or in smaller groups to celebrate collective values.

The acts of worship are non-denominational. Each House takes responsibility for three Assemblies throughout the year and is able to share work developed within the House with the whole school.

Harvest Festival is celebrated each year in a local church and food collected is distributed by our Form 6 pupils to the elderly residents of the town. Each Christmas the school holds a traditional Carol Service in All Saints Church and Key Stage 1 and the Foundation Stage present a Nativity for parents and Grandparents in the Church.

Religious Education is viewed as an education for life which teaches the values of love, truth and respect.
