Music

A specialist Music teacher takes all classes for singing. Curriculum music lessons are taught by the class teacher and cover many aspects including:

  • Developing an understanding and appreciation of a wide range of different kinds of music, developing and extending their own interests and increasing their ability to make judgments of musical quality.
  • Acquiring the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to make music, for example in community music-making, and, where appropriate, to follow a music-related career.
  • Develop skills, attitudes and attributes that can support learning in other subject areas and that are needed for life and work, for example listening skills, the ability to concentrate, creativity, intuition, aesthetic sensitivity, perseverance, self-confidence and sensitivity towards others.

There are further opportunities available to extend our pupils in music e.g.  a Peripatetic Music teacher extends the instrumental provision taught in class to include piano, clarinet and flute lessons. A thriving guitar club and choir also run and pupils love to exhibit their musical aptitude by performing in assemblies, local and national events.

Our latest inspection report stated that they were impressed with the musical talents in the school:

‘Several pupils have recently passed instrumental examinations and have competed successfully in music festivals.’
