LEARNING SUPPORT

The School has a qualified Learning Support Teacher who works closely with both Class Teachers and Parents, so that if a learning difficulty occurs, it can be quickly identified and appropriate support provided. If the problem persists despite extra support, it may be necessary to provide the child with an Individual Education Programme, which will identify further strategies to address the problem. The child may receive this support from a Teaching Assistant as well as the Learning Support Teacher.

Children may receive extra support at School at any point in their school career. A small number of children arrive here with previously identified difficulties such as Dyslexia and some may be identified during their time with us at Maldon Court. Our aim is to provide the child with the support that he or she needs, to work within their peer group.

The Parents of children working on Individual Programmes are consulted regularly and invited into School each term, to discuss their child’s progress. A new programme is drawn up each term and the identified targets may be worked on during individual, small group and class lessons.  Occasionally these programmes may incorporate targets that are set by Speech or Occupational Therapists who come into School to give advice.

Our aim is to provide a stimulating curriculum through which all children flourish and reach their full potential and therefore the work and contribution of all children is valued at Maldon Court.

Our recent School Inspection found that children with learning difficulties make good progress at School:

“All pupils have equal opportunity within the curriculum and are encouraged to take part in all that is provided.”
