Design & Technology
We encourage our children to question the world and to think about how and why things work the way they do. The children are encouraged to apply their knowledge and understanding when developing ideas, planning and making products and then evaluating them. The children use a wide range of materials and resources, including ICT.
The children gain satisfaction from using resources to design and create a product that meets a perceived need. Each year the Form 6 pupils enjoy making a hat for the teachers to wear at Christmas, taking into account the individual teachers personalities thus many great designs are created!

Skills are continually built upon in each of the five main areas, of paper and card, textiles, food, mouldables and construction. The children design, make and evaluate in these areas through out the year. The children enjoy cooking as part of their Design Technology lessons and many links are made with different cultures and their celebrations.
Opportunities are made each year to celebrate achievement in Design and Technology as a whole school community, either through D&T assemblies, Design and Technology days or Art and Design weeks. Our finale this summer was the Great Boat Competition which will be held at the Prom Boating Lake. This was a family affair where the parents supported in the design and make process and came along for the day to help evaluate the boats and joined in the fun.

This Christmas we worked together as a whole school to create a ‘nativity’ sculpture out of recycled materials.

We run an after school cookery club and a construction / Young Engineers club both of which are popular with our pupils, as are our school outings where amongst other things pupils make shelters and learn the basics of construction.

In our most recent Inspection Report it was stated that;
‘Parental expertise is valued and utilised effectively. For example, a parent who is a sculptor visits the school to guide pupils with their creativity, and several parents supported the pupils in One World Week activities.’
